KATH

I’ve been reading Kath’s Blog for about 2 years now. Anyone who reads her blog can attest to the fact that she has the most beautiful photos! Sometimes I head over to her blog just to gawk at her photography. It’s amazing!

1. How do you maintain balance between eating healthy, and enjoying your most favorite, more indulgent, foods?

I call this balance the Squiggly Line Effect. Your peaks must balance out your valleys. If you’re going to go all out at a party on Saturday you need to have a few days before and after where you’re super healthy. Many people do this naturally – do you ever only want salads after returning from vacation? You can read more about my thoughts on the Squiggly Line Effect in this post!

2. How do you stay consistent with exercise? If you run into a lull (aka, inactivity) with your exercise, how do you bounce back into your routine?

Generally if I get in a lull it’s because I’m mentally forcing myself to do something I am not in the mood to do. For example, when the weather is cold I really don’t like running outside or swimming, so I tend to dread those activities. One exercise I love doing in winter is hot yoga, so I just do more of what I feel like doing. In the spring and fall the weather is perfect for running so I run more. I think just like foods, exercise is seasonal and you have to follow your cravings for what you want to do most.

3. What are some of the essential, non-food related, joys in your life? How do you make sure these things are a priority? (ex: relationship, work, spirituality, social life, me-time, etc.)

My husband and I love going out on dates, so since we have a toddler now we have to schedule these in the calendar and get a babysitter lined up. I also really need a little time everyday to just chill with a book or magazine. 10 minutes will do! And obviously, sleep. If I don’t get my 8 hours I’m totally cranky!

TINA

I’ve been reading Tina’s Blog for 2 years also. I also read Tina’s book, Carrot’s N’ Cake which inspired me to take my own blogging to the next level. If you want to start your own Blog, check out Tina’s Blogging section.

1. How do you maintain balance between eating healthy, and enjoying your most favorite, more indulgent, foods?

I try to eat an 80/20 diet, so 80% of the time, I eat healthy and nutritious foods and 20% of the time is saved for fun foods. Healthy living is all about balance for me… having your carrots and eating your cake, too!

2. How do you stay consistent with exercise? If you run into a lull (aka, inactivity) with your exercise, how do you bounce back into your routine?

Finding something you love is key to staying consistent. I really enjoy CrossFit and religiously attend classes because I just love it so much.

As far as bouncing back after some inactivity, my best advice is to start NOW. Don’t wait until Monday or until you have a big block of extra free time. Throw on your sneakers, do a bunch of Burpees or go for a quick walk immediately. Being active and fit is all about consistency, so even doing a little exercise will get you back on track!

3. What are some of the essential, non-food related, joys in your life? How do you make sure these things are a priority? (ex: relationship, work, spirituality, social life, me-time, etc.)

Some essential, non-food related, joys in my life are spending time with my husband, my family, my friends, and my dog. They all add so much happiness (and laughter) to my life!

JULIE

Ah, Peanut Butter Fingers! This has to be the Blog that I most relate to. I love reading about Julie & Ryan, because they remind me so much of Marco & I. This Blog is my go-to!

PB FINGERS

1. How do you maintain balance between eating healthy, and enjoying your most favorite, more indulgent, foods?

I have a serious sweet tooth and sometimes that can be really hard to keep in check. I try to eat balanced meals that incorporate carbs, protein and healthy fat during mealtimes and that typically helps keep cravings in check. But if I am seriously craving something, I’ll eat it. Since we don’t eat dessert most nights in our house, I don’t feel bad about ordering dessert when I go out to dinner if I am craving something sweet.

2. How do you stay consistent with exercise? If you run into a lull (aka, inactivity) with your exercise, how do you bounce back into your routine?

My exercise became really consistent when I committed to morning workouts. Nothing pops up on my calendar at 5 a.m.! It was a hard transition to make at first, but now it feels like a habit and I love beginning my day by doing something good for my body.

If I run into a lull, I’ll try taking a new group exercise class or return to an old favorite. The group exercise environment is so motivating and I thrive off the energy of everyone around me.

3. What are some of the essential, non-food related, joys in your life? How do you make sure these things are a priority? (ex: relationship, work, spirituality, social life, me-time, etc.)

Without a doubt my family is the biggest source of joy in my life and my number one priority. And yes, I am including my dog in “my family.” :) My husband and I really enjoy getting outside with our dog at the end of a long day and I cherish this time to unwind, laugh and appreciate the little joys in life. When I see my dog get so excited about something as simple as a stick, it’s hard for me not to smile and remember that the little things are the big things!

BRITTANY

Oh… Eating Bird Food. I’m so thankful for this Blog. About 3 years ago, I found myself doing a google search on how to make green bean chips, and it lead me to Brittany’s Blog. I was freaking out. I had never seen a food blog before. I immediately became a fan of Brittany’s and wrote her telling her how much I appreciated her sharing her story online.

When I was in high-school struggling through all of my food struggles, I always wished there were someone out there that were happy, healthy, and normal that I could look up to. Had Brittany’s blog been there at that time, I would have been her #1 reader.

This is all how Healthy Hits the Spot started. I remember saying if there is even 1 female that I can help get through their food struggles with my blog, then my work has been done. And now look where I am!

Brittany is also the blogger that introduced me to IIN. So, I also have Brittany to thank for my own career!

If you love recipes, ideas, and super sweet posts, Brittany’s blog is for you.

Eating Bird Food - Brittany

1.How do you maintain balance between eating healthy, and enjoying your most favorite, more indulgent, foods?

I’ve grown to love eating healthy foods, so my favorite more “indulgent foods” tend to be healthier options — sweet potato fries, trail mix, dark chocolate, frozen yogurt, etc. That said, I give myself wiggle room and if I’m craving something (and I’m hungry), I’ll eat it. I’ve tried strict diets before and they simply don’t work for me — I just feel deprived and end up overeating or craving foods I typically never crave. I think the important things for me are portion size and moderation!

2. How do you stay consistent with exercise? If you run into a lull (aka, inactivity) with your exercise, how do you bounce back into your routine?

If I ever skip working out for a few days, I feel lousy and that feeling motivates me to get back into my routine. If I’m really feeling out of it (for instance, if I’ve been sick/injured and unable to workout) I’ll gradually get back into my routine by starting with short workouts (a 20 minute walk or a Tone It Up workout video).

I like to switch up my workouts so that I never get bored. Right now I’m doing the FOCUS T25 program and loving it. The workouts are lead by Shaun T, the same guy that did Insanity, and they’re high intensity, heart pumping workouts that last 25 minutes. We’ve been having a lot of bad weather so it’s been nice having a workout that I can do without having to leave the house.

3. What are some of the essential, non-food related, joys in your life? How do you make sure these things are a priority? (ex: relationship, work, spirituality, social life, me-time, etc.)

There are so many! I love spending time at home with my husband and dog and hanging out with my family and friends. I try to call at least one of my family members and friends each week so that we keep in touch. I also love meeting up with my local friends for coffee, lunch or a workout class. For me-time, I’m a big fan of yoga, getting mani/pedis, getting massages, taking baths and reading. As for work, right now I’m focused on getting my personal training certification and launching my health coaching business on a larger scale. All of this truly excites me as I’m very passionate about helping others make positive life changes!
